Construction of Interstate 69 is wrapping up in Morgan County and ramping up in Johnson and Marion counties.

Following traffic shifts last week, both directions of State Road 37 are sharing new pavement south of Southport Road. The traffic pattern is expected to remain in place for about one year as construction continues for future I-69 pavement and bridges, according to a weekly update from the Indiana Department of Transportation.

Signal timings and stop bars at the Smith Valley Road intersection have now been adjusted for the new location of State Road 37 traffic, INDOT officials say.

Bluff Road is expected to close starting next week near Angel Animal Hospital; there will be access to the area from Fairview Road or Wakefield Road, officials say.

In Marion County, construction closed Epler Avenue west of State Road 37. The detour including Banta Road and Concord Street is expected to remain in place into next year, officials say.

Work on a new traffic signal at Wellingshire Boulevard and the realigned Belmont Avenue west of State Road 37 is expected to stop Southport Road traffic intermittently for up to 20 minutes Tuesday night and Wednesday night. The signal is expected to be turned on in late October, officials say.

Drainage pipe installation will reduce Wicker Road to one lane near State Road 37; expect delays 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and a temporary signal to alternate one-way traffic, officials say.

In Morgan County, reduced speed limits have been removed from most of the I-69 work zone through Martinsville. The northbound speed limit drops north of Martinsville from 65mph to 45mph for ongoing work including bridge painting, rumble strips and driveway removal. Paving crews are applying the final layers on new access roads in the Artesian Square Shopping Center, with striping to follow, officials say.
